![]() Steam Engine (K 163) (Click on the picture to visit Moorooduc Quarry Flora and Fauna Reserve) The contract for building the line from Mornington Junction was let in August 1888 to David Munro & Co for 25,000 pounds. The line was ready for service a year later. Munro also built a spur line from Moorooduc to Moorooduc quarry (located in Mt Eliza) to transport stone and ballast for the line. Economy measures forced suspension of operations during the Second World War. A goods service resumed soon after the war and a passenger train (DERM) was introduced in 1966 operating until the line closure in 1981. |
Fundraising Fundraising, sponsorship and other support are the life- blood of the whole operation. The fundraising activities include member subscriptions, personal donations, and corporate sponsorship. The Mornington Railway Preservation Society has recently recieved grants from Parks Victoria for the platform at Moorooduc and the Department of Infrastructure for two sleeper grants. |
