The contract for building the line from Mornington Junction was let in
August 1888 to David Munro & Co for 25,000 pounds. The line was ready
for service a year later. Munro also built a spur line from Moorooduc to
Moorooduc quarry (located in Mt Eliza) to transport stone and ballast for
the line. Economy measures forced suspension of operations during the
Second World War. A goods service resumed soon after the war and a
passenger train (DERM) was introduced in 1966 operating until the line
closure in 1981.

Diesel Engine (Click on the picture to visit Moorooduc Quarry Flora and Fauna Reserve)
The Society has acquired and restored an impressive array of rolling
stock from many individuals and businesses. The Apex Club and the
Frankston City Council assisted the Society to retrieve a steam engine
(K163) from the play ground of Jubilee Park, Frankston, where it had
been a feature for 16 years. In 1985 K163 was lifted and transported to
Trans - West Hastings. As a result of a lot of hard work by volunteers
and the assistance from many companies of different sizes, the engine
became fully operational and a number of trips were run to various
parts of Victoria.

Other rolling stock includes -

2 Diesel electric locomotives - T411 and T334.

Passenger and other carriages fully restored by Society members with
financial assistance from the Shire of Hastings and the City of Frankston.

A guards van used for catering.

Rail trolleys essential for line maintenance.
