Since the Mornington Railway Preservation Society was formed in 1984, it has relied on locomotive K163 as its sole hauler.
A second locomotive would provide back-up for when K163 is out of service for maintenance as well as enabling editional services to be introduced in due course to Baxter, Frankston and other
destinations.

K177 Boiler - awaits restoration - Click on the picture to see more pictures
K177 was acquired by the society in 1989 from the museum of the Ararat Historical Society. It has been stripped down and the boiler removed to enable necessary repair work to be undertaken. When completed, the restoration will be one of the most extensive ever carried out on a locomotive of its type in Victoria. Restoring the boiler will cost about 30,000 dollars and a further 60,000 dollars will be required for the rest of the engine and tender. The dismantled boiler and engine can be inspected at Moorooduc Station.

If you are interested in helping with the restoration with K177 in a hands-on way, we would very pleased to hear from you.
People with skills in the following areas would be extremely helpful -
Welding and Brazing (Stick, Tig, Oxy). Fitting and Turning. Sheet Metal. Tool Making. Boilermaking. Steel Fabrication. Carpentry.
However, there is plenty of interesting work for non-skilled volunteers on this project, and we welcome any assistance no matter how small.
